Kathmandu, October 13
Tribhuvan University, the largest university of the country, expects to get its vice-chancellor soon.
The post has been vacant for more than a month.
&The appointment of the vice-chancellor of TU will take place within this week,& said Puspa Dhakal, under-secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
A committee headed by Giri Raj Mani Pokharel, Minister of Education, Science and Technology had recommended names of Bhagwan Koirala, senior cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, Dharma Kanta Banskota, professor at the Institute of Medicine and former chairman of the Nepal Medical Council and Chandra Mani Paudel, former registrar at TU, as candidates for the post.
&As the recommendation committee has submitted the list of the candidates to the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the appointment is likely to be conducted within this week,& said Dhakal, adding, &Considering his experience Koirala is likely to lead the university.&
Post of the vice-chancellor has remained vacant after Tirtha Raj Khaniya retired from the post completing his tenure on August.
Releasing a press statement on October 6 Govinda KC, senior orthopaedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital had appealed the government to stop the ongoing appointment process of vice-chancellor.
He had demanded that the government appoint university officials as per the report submitted by the team of Parasar Koirala saying the report mentioned guidelines on the appointment of university officials.
