The NSU handed over a seven-point memorandum to the Controller of Examinations today after they noticed gross negligence in implementing the academic calendar, especially when it came to conducting examination on time and publishing exam results.
Through the memorandum, the NSU has demanded that all the works of the office should be done by adhering to the annual academic calendar strictly to avoid any misunderstanding and to encourage students in their studies.Newly appointed Chair of NSU Dujang Sherpa, submitting the seven-point memorandum at the meeting, said that a good university must run its programmes adhering to the academic calendar.
"But completely ignoring the academic calendar has made our examination system messy and students are always in confusion about the duration of their studies.
This situation has unfolded mainly due to university authorities' inaction," Sherpa said.
Over 80 per cent students in the country pursue higher studies at various constituent and affiliated colleges of TU.The NSU has also said students should get their marksheets online within 24 hours of applying for it .
He also demanded a dedicated help desk on the premises of the Examination Control Office within 15 days to provide hassle-free services to students. Many students in TU out on the convocation due to sluggish system of the university.Due to the negligence of the office, there is growing confusion among students about the data-sheets of their exams, said Chairman Sherpa.
Due to failure to adhere to the academic calendar, the situation has become such that new batch of an academic year has joined the classes, but the old batch is yet to take the exams.
For instance, there are two classes running parallel for juniors and seniors for the BBS second year as senior students could not take their exams on time.University authorities' failure to take decision on conducting examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to this chaos and uncertainty.
Students of bachelors and masters level have been waiting for their exam date-sheets for over one-and-a-half years.Whereas, high school exams were conducted through virtual mode and even at home centres.A version of this article appears in the print on April 6, 2022, of The Himalayan Times.
