According to sources, Khudam Bir Tamang, who was deployed to support the South Korean's Lhotse South Face expedition was reportedly swept by an avalanche near Camp I.
The incident occurred when Tamang, a resident of Khotang district, and his fellow Sherpa climber were returning from the high camp.The fellow climber who witnessed the scene described that Tamang was perished by an avalanche at around 6,000m when he was descending to the base camp, sources added.A team of Sherpas have been conducting ground search while the expedition organiser - Seven Summit Treks - is also preparing to send a helicopter to expedite search mission there, SST Chairman Mingma Sherpa, informed.Tamang was a part the eight-member expedition led by renowned Korean climber Sung-Taek Hong.Hong is on a mission to make his seventh attempt to climb the Lhotse South Face, one of the toughest climbs in the world, this season.
