KATHMANDU, MAY 8CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli today warned that his party could break the five-party ruling alliance in a week if it wanted to.
Five-party alliance forced to hold local polls, says Oli
Five-party ruling alliance meeting underway
Speaking at a press conference here today, Oli said that other coalition partners could leave the current ruling alliance if his party offered some more opportunities than what they were getting from the Nepali Congress.
"A cat goes with those that offer more milk in a bowl,"
Oli said in response to a journalist's query.
He also said that his party had more power than the NC to woo coalition partners.
Oli said that the ruling coalition would feel the force of his party on May 13 when local polls would be held.Calling the ruling alliance, a criminal alliance, Oli said that CPN-Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal had violated the poll code when he said that if his daughter did not win the election the country would witness disastrous consequences.
He said Dahal had intimidated voters by making such a remark.
He said the ruling alliance was making false promises.Oli flayed the Election Commission for prohibiting candidates and cadres from carrying other parties' flags and election symbol.
"If somebody caries other parties' flags and election symbol then that might be an issue of disciplinary action to be taken by the concerned party but why should the EC poke its nose into such acts?" Oli wondered. He said the EC kept mum when top leaders including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba campaigned for other political parties, but the polls panel was now trying to censure local cadres and leaders for campaigning for other political parties and candidates. At the press conference, Oli read out contents from a 67-point appeal requesting voters to vote in favour of his party's candidates in the local polls slated for May 13.Oli breathed fire against the NC saying that the party first joined hands with the Ranas and then colluded with the kings when it said that its neck was conjoined with monarchy.
NC has to be blamed for the rise of Maoist insurgency.
"NC has never intended to collaborate with the CPN-UML.
Rather it thinks such an idea itself is a crime," Oli said.
Oli said that the NC did not believe in people's mandate and rather it was trying to rule the country through deception and conspiracy.Oli said that the NC dislodged his government when it was rapidly carrying out development works and ensuring good governance. He said his government had no option but to take fresh mandate, but it was the mandamus order of the Supreme Court that dislodged his government.Oli said his government had made great efforts to spur development efforts in all fields.
"Our government became second after India in South Asia in providing free COVID-19 vaccines," he added.Oli urged people to vote for two terms in all three levels of government - local, provincial and federal - in order to allow his party to complete development works.A version of this article appears in the print on May 09, 2022, of The Himalayan Times.
