NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was underperforming benchmark Sensex during Monday's trade.Around 10:50 am, the midcap index was 0.97 per
cent down at 15,742, while the Sensex was 0.17 per cent down at 34,788
The NSE Nifty50 was 0.30 per cent down at 10,564 around the same time.Falling nearly 8 per cent, Ashok Leyland was the top drag on the
midcap index.Amara Raja Batteries (down 6.26 per cent), Vakrangee (down 4.95 per cent), Reliance Communications (down 4.89 per cent) and
Godrej Agrovet (down 4.17 per cent) cracked over 4 per cent in the index.Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 3.75 per cent), Ajanta
Pharma (down 3.28 per cent) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (down 3.03 per cent) declined up to 4 per cent.However, shares of Nalco (up 3.18
per cent), Bank of India (up 2.79 per cent) and Tata Chemicals (up 2.58 per cent) jumped up to 3 per cent in the index.Equity markets were
trading in the red even as Asian peers were in the green amid easing trade war worries between the US and China.A surge in oil prices and
falling rupee dealt a blow to market sentiment.In the Sensex index, 11 stocks were up, while 20 were down.Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Labs and
Hero MotoCorp declined up to 2 per cent in the Sensex index.
