INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
KATHMANDU: In an effort to lessen traffic congestion, ‘pick and drop& system has been put in place in Koteshwar & one of the busiest areas
of Kathmandu Valley.
The system — that prevents public vehicles to wait at stops for a longer time — has been put into effect from
Sunday as per the agreement reached among the Traffic Police, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and transport entrepreneurs.
Senior Superintendent
of Police (SSP) Basanta Kumar Pant, chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, said the new measure was mooted to reduce traffic
pressure at Koteshwar.
It would be easier for vehicles entering Kathmandu from Kavre via Jagati with the enforcement of the system at the
main thoroughfare of the city, he added.
Koteshwar has witnessed terrible traffic congestion which often happens when public vehicles wait
for passengers for a long time
Saroj Sitaula, general-secretary of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, expressed his belief that the system would be
effective in lessening traffic at Koteshwar Chok and easing public movement.
Earlier, the system was put in place at Jamal, Old Bus Park,
Shahid Gate and Lainchaur in the federal capital city
According to the Traffic Division, the system would be gradually enforced in other parts of the Valley as well to keep traffic management
