Tree sapling plantation campaign launched

Kathmandu, June 29 Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli planted tree saplings amid a special function organised in Kathmandu today, to mark the
National Tree Plantation Day. All government agencies and local levels also followed suit. Earlier, the government had announced that it
would celebrate June 29 as the National Tree Plantation Day
Prime Minister Oli planted tree saplings in Koteshwor today. On his official Twitter account, the prime minister encouraged people to plant
50 million tree saplings a year
&Let protect saplings like we protect our children,& he wrote. According to the budget speech for the fiscal 2018-19, the coming fiscal will
be declared and observed as afforestation year and planting of saplings of timber and fruit trees will be carried out as a campaign
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers said that community forest users& groups, private sectors and non-governmental
organisations, among other stakeholders, will be actively engaged in the campaign to make the afforestation year a success. The act of
planting fruit and herb saplings in vacant forest areas, river reclaimed areas, public land and private forests will be undertaken as part
of the campaign
Besides the government, the private sector will be encouraged to establish and develop nurseries to produce fruit and timber throughout the
