INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
Mohit Suri's romantic thriller, Malang took a fair start at the box-office
As per early estimates, the film has raked in Rs
5.80 to 7crore on its opening day, with almost an equal contribution from the metros and mass belts
The film was more or less linear throughout the day, with the biz taking the expected jump at the multiplexes towards the evening and night
shows. The film, starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani and Anil Kapoor, was in need of a better music album as that would have translated
in better pre-release buzz and hence a marginally better start
Music is usually the USP of intense romantic thriller like Malang, which doesn't ride on saleable names, particularly in the mass belts
The single screens recorded occupancy of 25 to 30% through the day and same was the scenario with multiplexes too.The word of mouth seems to
be mixed, and hence the big jump over the weekend will be missing
The cinema halls in Delhi are shut tomorrow owing to the elections and this will result in a flat Saturday or even drop in collections on
Malang is headed towards a weekend around the 20 crore mark, which is just about decent.Malang faces stiff competition from Love Aaj Kal
next week, which also has a target audience similar to Malang, more in the metros
The second release of the week, Shikara is a disaster on its opening day itself, as the film has collected around 75 Lakhs on its opening
The reports are also mixed, which means, its curtains down for the film on the first day itself
And this was more or less expected. This article first appeared in -
