HoR panel passes bill on Madan Bhandari university

Kathmandu, March 18 A meeting of the Education and Health Committee of the House of Representatives today endorsed a bill related to the
establishment of Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology. The bill was passed with amendments. The bill aims to establish a
university for world standard education and research work in science and technology. Committee President Jayapuri Gharti presented the
bill with proposal to appoint the university board of directors& chair from among Nepali citizen, which was accepted by the meeting
unanimously. Earlier, the government had proposed possibility of appointing the chair from among foreign nationals. This proposal has been
nullified through the amendment. However, there is a provision of appointing other office bearers among from foreign citizens. Though the
government had proposed either Chitlang of Makwanpur or Panchkhal and Namobudhha of Kavre as the central office of the university, the
amendment granted authority to take the decision in this regard to the board of patrons. Two members on the board of patrons shall be from
among the university alumni
The university is being established to produce skilled technicians and scientists as well as new ideas, knowledge and technology. In today
meeting, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel said China was willing to extend support in setting up the
university and a decision regarding the university central office would be made later. Stating that the university would be a specialised
institution of higher learning in view of producing human resource required for prosperity of the country, the minister stressed that
