Assam’s only woman Chief Minister Syeda Anwara Taimur passes away

84 and was residing in Australia with her son for the past few years.Taimur was the Chief Minister of Assam from December 6, 1980 to June
30, 1981.From 1983 to 1985 Taimur was the PWD minister of the state and she was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 1972, 1978,
1983, and 1991.In 1988, she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and in 1991, she was appointed as the Agriculture minister in Hiteswar
Saikia-led Congress government.Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi condoled the demise of Syeda Anwara Taimur.In his condolence message, Prof
Mukhi said, “Saddened to know the death of the former Chief Minister Syeda Anwara Taimur a veteran mass leader who championed the cause of
politics with an undertone of people’s development
She was an able administrator and the only female chief minister of Assam who served the state as well as the people of Assam with utmost
dedication and compassion.”“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and pray to God to be with the bereaved
family members in this testing time
May her soul rest in peace,” the Assam Governor said.On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted “Saddened by the
sudden demise of former Chief Minister of Assam, Syeda Anwara Taimur
Praying for the departed soul, I offer my heartfelt condolences to her family members and well-wishers.”
