NHRC facing challenges for want of physical resources

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
KATHMANDU, MARCH 13The National Human Rights Commission has lamented that it is going
through a difficult situation in terms of physical resources.
'Climate change can push national economy to a difficult
situation'
Human rights situation abysmal in Karnali
Despite repeated efforts, the situation has not improved
In fiscal 2020- 21, the rights body was forced to carry out its functions in an adverse situation due to lack of necessary physical and
other resources
According to Annual Report for the fiscal 2020-2021, the functioning of NHRC has been affected owing to lack of proper and necessary
infrastructure and resources in proportion to human resources. Construction work of the central office building, which was
damaged by the earthquakes of April 2015, has not started yet
The Central Office of the NHRC is presently operating from a prefabricated building on the unoccupied land in front of the old
building.During the rainy season, water enters the office and hampers work and causes damage to physical property
It has become difficult to protect the books in the Human Resource Centre (Library) of the NHRC due to leakage of rain water.Provincial
offices and provincial branch offices of the NHRC are still operating from rented buildings
Although land has been acquired for the provincial branch offices in Khotang and the Dhangadi, necessary initiatives have not been taken to
construct the building
This has led to urgency to relocate the office on the one hand, while on the other, the situation of increasing financial burden remains,
