have received 56 and 14 candidacies for the mayoral post for the upcoming level election scheduled for May 13.

Similarly, the number of
candidacies filed for the post of deputy mayor stands at 31 in KMC and 13 in LMC.
Among 56 candidates in KMC, 21 represent
political parties while 35 are independent candidates
Of the 14 mayoral candidates in LMC, 11 people represent political parties, while three are independent candidates.Of the 31 candidates
filing for the post of deputy mayor in KMC, 12 represent political parties and 19 are independent.Similarly, of the 13 deputy mayor post in
LMC, eight represent political parties and five are independent.The number of women candidates in the top position of both the local
governments is not very encouraging.Eight women have filed candidacies for the post of mayor and 12 women have filed candidacies for the
deputy mayor post in Kathmandu metropolis, while three women have filed candidacy for the post of mayor and six for deputy mayor in Lalitpur
metropolis.The nomination filing time was scheduled for April 24 and April 25 as most of the candidates had filed their nominations last
night.A total of 1,262 candidacies were filed at all levels in all wards inside the KMC while 645 candidacies were filed at all levels in
the LMC.The Election Commission had slated today as the day to file complaints, if any, against candidates.The EC, through its district
offices, will investigation complaints on April 27 and 28
The EC will allow a single-day deadline on April 29 to withdraw nominations.After that, the EC will publish the final name list of the
