Candidates wooing voters with booze, mutton

BAJURA, MAY 7The election code of the conduct clearly bars candidates from
distributing alcohol or food to the public during poll campaigning
In a clear violation of the poll code, candidates, however, are providing voters mutton and liquor at Himali, Jagannath Rural Municipality
and Budhinanda Municipality in Bajura.

Candidates are spending money on mutton and liquor to lure voters in different places, said Dhan Singh
Bk of Swamikartika Rural Municipality-1. According to a local,CPN-UML and Nepali Congress had distributed seven goats to
the voters at Kawadi and Chaudila village of Himali Rural Municipality
"Tendency to vote those who feed mutton and liquor has escalated in the village," said another local Shreelal Luwar.Despite the ban on the
sale of liquor, the transaction of hooch has gone up in the village.Manmati Chadar of Himalai Rural Municipality-5 says that feasts and
parties have increased along with election campaigning Kali BK of Jagannath Rural Municipality shared that distribution of liquor and mutton
was most in the Dalit community."They should have given us rice instead of liquor and meat," BK said.Muktikot of Swamikartik Khapar Rural
Municipality is home to 400 Dalit families.Though the village is the poorest in the country, candidates from NC, UML and Maoists provide
liquor and meat to woo the voters every evening.Police have launched a campaign to check the sale of liquor at Martadi and Kolti.A version
