The telecommunications levy will be increased with effect from midnight today (June 03), the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission
(TRCSL).Thereby, the tax will go up from 11.25% to 15%, resulting in a hike in call charges as well.The TRCSL also stated that the telephone
tariffs will move up by approximately 8% due to the increase in the Value-Added Tax (VAT) from 8% to 12%.According to the Prime Minister’s
Office, the revenue from the telecommunications tax dropped to Rs
13.1 billion in 2022 from Rs
18.3 billion in 2019 as a result of the tax cut introduced on December 01, 2019
The government had slashed the Telecommunications Tax to 11.25% from 15%.
