INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
Starting from the 01st of August, fuel will not be dispensed based on any method other than the National Fuel Pass QR code system, the
Ministry of Power - Energy said today.Accordingly, dispensing fuel for the last digit of the number plate or tokens will be discontinued
from next month.The ministry stated this in a special press release issued on the implementation of the National Fuel Pass QR code
platform.As per the statement, when distributing fuel to filling stations, priority will be given to the stations that have successfully
adopted the system.Meanwhile, the vehicle owners who were unable to register with the chassis number will be given the opportunity to
register for the fuel pass using the vehicle revenue license number.The ministry said all three-wheeler owners are required to register
their vehicles with the police station in their respective areas and nominate a filling station closest to their place of residence
Thereby, in the coming days, three-wheelers will only be allowed to pump fuel from the nominated filling station.Weekly fuel requirements
for machinery including garden equipment and generators must be registered with the respective Divisional Secretariats with the nominated
filling station they intend to obtain fuel from.The statement also noted that businesspersons can register multiple vehicles using their
business registration number.When dispensing fuel, public transport vehicles will be given the priority, the ministry said further, adding
that the fuel for the buses will be provided by the depots of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) based on the allocations decided according to
the number of kilometers travelled and the route permit.The diesel requirements for the vehicles in school and office transport services,
tourist sector, industries, ambulances and other essential services, will also be provided by SLTB depots.When pumping fuel to vehicles, all
filling stations will give priority fulfil the fuel requirements of ambulances, the ministry noted. Meanwhile, a fuel quota will be
reserved from selected filling stations for the Police Departments, to be distributed to each police station. The Ministry of Power -
Energy appealed to the general public to send video or photo evidence of people hoarding or illegally selling fuel or not following
instructions on fuel distribution
Evidence can be sent to 074 212 3123.Accordingly, the QR fuel pass issued to such persons will be temporarily discontinued or legal action
will be sought against them.
