Malaysia Civil Aviation Chief Resigns After MH370 Probe Emphasizes Lapses

INSUBCONTINENT EXCLUSIVE:
Azharuddin Abdul Rahman resigned on Tuesday.Kuala Lumpur: The chief of Malaysia's civil air travel authority resigned on Tuesday after an
examination report on the missing out on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 showed lapses by the air traffic control centre in Kuala Lumpur. The
report released on Monday on the disappearance four years ago of the airliner during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239
individuals on board shed little fresh light on one of the greatest mysteries of contemporary aviation history. In a statement revealing his
resignation, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman stated the report had highlighted failures by air traffic control service to comply with standard
operating procedures, but had not recommended the air travel authority was to blame for the loss of the airplane
For that reason, it is with remorse and after much thought and consideration that I have decided to resign as the Chairman of Civil Air
Travel Authority of Malaysia effective 2 week from the date of the resignation notice which I have served today, he said in the
statement. In a 495-page report, detectives stated the controls of aircraft were likely deliberately controlled to take it off course but
they were unable to identify who was responsible. The report, nevertheless, highlighted mistakes made by the Kuala Lumpur air traffic control
It stated air traffic controllers failed to initiate basic emergency situation stages, and that there was no record that they took any
action to signal the flying force or kept a constant watch on the radar display.Addressing a press conference in parliament, Transportation
Minister Anthony Loke said an internal committee would be formed to come up with recommendations and possible action that could be taken
against the air traffic controllers on duty at the time
