Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal said Nepal Police was committed to ensuring smooth, comfortable and safe journey for people throughout the country, not only during the festive season but also all the year round.
Speaking at a programme organised by Metropolitan Traffic Police Division in Gongabu today, he stressed on concerted efforts by all stakeholders to reduce road accidents to zero during the festive season.
&Negligence of drivers, drink-driving, recklessness of passengers and haphazard overtaking are among the major causes of preventable road accidents on the highways.
All stakeholders need to work to ensure road safety,& IGP Khanal said.
He also appealed all drivers to be more responsible for safety of the passengers.
&Driver is the most responsible person.
Passengers put their trust on the driver.
Therefore, drivers should act in responsible manner to ensure a safe journey,& IGP Khanal said.
He also honoured seven drivers from among many drivers for safe driving for the past 35 years.
Higher cases of road accidents have been recorded during festive season due to rush, overloaded vehicles and drink driving.
