KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Office has made special security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident in Kathmandu valley during Tihar festival.
According to MPO, over 6,500 police personnel, both in uniform and civvies, will be deployed.
Similarly, police have stepped up security to ensure that illegal and dangerous fireworks are not used in the valley.
Security personnel have been keeping vigil on the outskirts of the valley, mainly at major entry points, to curb illegal import of explosive materials and firecrackers in the run-up to the Tihar festival.
All vehicles passing through entry points are subject to security check.
Firecrackers are extensively used during Tihar.
Meanwhile, police arrested two persons with a huge cache of firecrackers from different places of Kathmandu on Thursday.
Police officials said Alish Karki, 28, of Kathmandu was held in possession of firecrackers worth around Rs 50,000 during security checking in Putalisadak.
Similarly, Khemraj Regmi, 42, of Jhapa was arrested with 75 packets of various firecrackers from Ghattekulo.
