Kathmandu, November 4
Dharma Kanta Banskota, who was appointed vice-chancellor of Tribhuvan University, the country largest and oldest university, assumed his office from today.

Banskota signed a decision to form a Convocation Ceremony Organisers Main Committee after taking the position of the 11th VC of TU.
Banskota, who had served as chairperson of Nepal Medical Council earlier, is also an ENT specialist.
After assuming office, Banskota told THT that he would work towards making the university one of the renowned universities in the world.
&I am hopeful that I will be able to bring about positives changes at the university.
For this, I need the support of students, professors, administrative staff and political leaders,& he added.
Banskota further said if anyone was found not abiding by the rule and indulging in illegal and unethical work at the university, stringent action would be taken.
Banskota was appointed to the post by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
A committee headed by Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giri Raj Mani Pokharel had recommended Dr Bhagwan Koirala and Chandra Mani Paudel for the post of TU VC.
