Kathmandu, November 14
Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista has urged International Organisation for Migration to effectively implement the provision of sending migrant workers for foreign employment at zero investment.
Minster Bista said this at a meeting with the IOM Asia and Pacific region Regional Director Maria Nenette Motus yesterday.
IOM official had paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office in Singha Durbar.
On the occasion, Minister Bista said workers were facing many difficulties due to unhealthy competition in labour supply process.
He urged International Organisations for Migration to work with determination to ensure the provision that required the employers themselves to bear all expenses in hiring labourers.
Stating that there was need of minimum standard to make labour recruiting process scientific, Minister Bista suggested that International Organisations for Migration could play significant role in developing such standards.
He also suggested IOM for moving forward by making long-term strategy on labour migration.
International Organisations for Migration Regional Director Motus appreciated the Government of Nepal role in making labour migration safe and systematic.
