New curriculum to be implemented from next year

Kathmandu, November 24 Curriculum Development Centre, which had failed to introduce new curriculum for the last two years, is finally set to implement new curriculum for Grade I and Grade XI from the next academic session, starting from mid-July. The eighth amendment of the Education Act, 2016 has envisioned replacing stream-based education system with single-track curriculum in Grades IX and XII. Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for CDC, said &We have already started working on books for compulsory subjects of Grade I and XI.

Similarly, we are in the final stage of designing curriculum for optional subjects of Grade XI.

We will soon start publishing them too and dispatch them across the country to implement them for next year.& The CDC has claimed that the curriculum from Grade I to XII will be fully implemented by the academic year 2023.

As per the new curriculum, students of Grades X, XI and XII are required to study three compulsory subjects — Nepali, English and Social Studies in Grade XI and Nepali, English and Life Skills in Grade XII. Each school is required to teach three credit hours for compulsory subject I, four credit hours to compulsory subject II and five credit hours for compulsory subject III.

One credit hour is equivalent to 32 hours classroom.

Ranking system will also be completely removed with the implementation of the new curriculum. Life Skills subject will include topics such as decision making, problem solving and intra-personal communication strategies, among others.

Nepali subject which is a compulsory subject for only Grade XI till now will be compulsory even in Grade XII. Apart from three compulsory subjects, students are required to study three other subjects as per their interests.

Unlike, stream-based education,students can now study any subject they wish from all streams such as humanities, science, arts and law, among others. The post New curriculum to be implemented from next year appeared first on The Himalayan Times.
