Kathmandu, March 12
An anti-corruption campaign initiated by Ramesh Kharel, former deputy inspector general of police, was launched at a function in Kathmandu today.
The theme of Our Nepal Good Governance Campaign is ‘Let Protest Corruption for Good Governance&.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Kharel said the campaign was born out of urgent need to wage a war against growing menace of corruption and irregularities in government entities.
Objectives of the campaign include building a corruption-free nation, protection and promotion of nationality and political purification.
It will also conduct various activities to meet the objectives.
As per the concept paper released by the campaign, awareness-raising programmes against corruption will be held throughout the country to warn the persons, who have accumulated illegitimate assets.
The activists will collect information about the corrupts and the assets they possess and mount pressure on the concerned agencies to initiate legal action against the culprits.
According to the concept paper the campaign will mount pressure for amendment of the constitution to bring all disgruntled groups on board and hold discussions with experts, stakeholders and general public to get their feedback.
The campaign will also protest against the culture of political power sharing regarding the appointment of officials in constitutional bodies.
It has also raised voice for granting voting rights to Nepali people living abroad.
The campaign has formed a five-member central ad hoc executive council under the coordination of Kharel.
Its members include Devendra Prasad Sitaula, Narayan Ghimire, Raj Kumar Yadav and Roshan Shrestha.
