KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has appealed its public to remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures to avoid the possible spread of coronavirus infection. Issuing a press statement, KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said, the threat of COVID-19 spreading through the city could be minimised if all citizens take precautions immediately. Stating that Kathmandu is a cultural city with people belonging to various backgrounds and religions, the metropolitan city urges all to not go into crowds of any kind.

It has requested everyone to refrain from mass celebration during the upcoming festivals such Pahan-charhe, Ghode Jatra, Seto Machhindranath chariot-pulling festival, among others, which witness participation of large number of people. Likewise, the metropolis requests its people to not gather in large number in religious sites such as temples, mosques, monasteries, churches, among others, to reduce the risk of infection. Kathmandu denizens have also been requested to spread correct and useful information among one another at a crucial time like this.
