BARA, APRIL 25Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, and Rastriya Janamorcha have decided to contest the upcoming local elections as a united front in Bara's Jitpursimara sub-metropolis.
Nominations filed for local elections nationwide
Separate alliance
Accusing one of the coalition partners - CPN-Maoist Centre - of attempting to move unilaterally, three other coalition partners decided to opt out of the central alliance and form a separate alliance, leaving out CPN- MC and also CPN (Unified Socialist).
Last evening, representatives of the three parties convened and issued a statement informing about their decision to fight in the upcoming elections by fielding a common candidate.
Nepali Congress Jitpursimara city president Chhabilal Sharma, JSP-N central member Bharat Khadka and RJ central member Dharmanand Subedi Padhya jointly issued the statement.
CPN (Unified Socialist) didn't attend the meeting either."If any alliance, the parties to such an alliance are expected to be flexible and respect each other, but as the CPN-MC tried to move ahead unilaterally, there was no option for us but to form a separate alliance," read the statement, informing about its decision to field common candidates from the ground up to the mayoral level. The three parties have accused CPN-MC of fielding its own candidates at the ward level despite getting the mayoral post for itself as per the alliance's decision.
As per the central alliance's decision, the posts for mayor and deputy mayor were to go to the CPN-MC and NC respectively.
There were, however, disputes not only over posts, and but also posts at the local levels.A version of this article appears in the print on April 26, 2022, of The Himalayan Times.
