SOLUKHUMBU, MAY 1The 7 Summit Foundation has announced to support four million rupees to Wongchu Memorial Hospital in Solukhumbu to construct a maternity care home in the hospital premises.

The financial support aims to upgrade the capacity of the newly constructed hospital in the remote district of eastern Nepal, according to the foundation.
7SF Chairman AC Sherpa has offered Rs 4 million to the hospital to build a maternity care home (birthing centre), Lakpa Sherpa, Chairman at Himalayan Yokpu Foundation said.
Lakpa, who is also the Project Director at WMH, said that 7SF has agreed to provide additional 28 lakh rupees to the hospital to build the birthing center.According to her, the 7SF had already provided 12 lakh rupees to the hospital for ambulance services.
"As we managed to get an ambulance from the rural municipality, 12 Lakh rupees will also be used to construct the birthing centre," she added.Honorary Consul for Seattle in Washington State, AC Sherpa, who has as well served as Deputy Regional Coordinator (Americas) for the NRN's International Coordination Council, said that 7SF's support would help decrease maternal as well as neonatal mortality rates in the remote district after the establishment of birthing centre.
"The maternity building would be a noble project for 7SF," Sherpa, who has climbed mountains across all seven continents of the world, added.A resident of Solukhumbu district, Sherpa had set up the foundation with the aim of supporting the women and children in need.
"The foundation was also planning to run projects that could reduce the effects of global warming in Nepal in co-ordination with American political parties and the government," he added.The foundation had already supported the reconstruction of a building for Tapting secondary school, which was destroyed in the earthquake, in Solukhumbu district.
The foundation also provided educational and livelihood support to Solsing, a remote village of Sindhupalchok district, Sherpa, who is also chair of the NRNA's Tourism Task Force Committee, added.
