The first hearing of the case has been scheduled for tomorrow.
The petitioner, Advocate Bimal Prasad Pokharel, has argued that since the NC voted in favour of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal during the vote of confidence in the HoR, Deuba as the parliamentary party leader of the NC cannot claim the status of the leader of opposition.Earlier, the SC had refused to register the case.A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan that heard the petitioner's argument against the SC administration's decision to refuse the case, allowed the petitioner to register the case.
According to SC Spokesperson Bimal Paudel, the petitioner has demanded that the letter issued by the Parliament Secretariat recognising Deuba as the leader of opposition be stayed.A version of this article appears in the print on February 8, 2023, of The Himalayan Times.
