Bajura, February 9At least ten new mothers died in a period of four years for want of treatment in Bajura.
Pregnant women, new mothers left in the lurch
Infant's parents seek support for his heart treatment
Five women died in 2019, one in 2020, two in 2021 and two in 2022.
But District Health Office, Bajura has no record of these deaths.
Pulti Rawal, 35, of Jagannath Rural Municipality, Basanti Nepali, 23, of Badimalika Municipality, Nirmala Bohora, 35, of Budinanda Municipality, Regina Nepali, 37, of Tribeni Municipality, and Kamala Ukhed, 20, of Budiganga Municipality died for want of treatment in 2019.
Similarly,Amba Kala Rokaya, 23, of Budinanda Municipality died on the way to Kolti Primary Health Centre after she could not give birth to the baby in 2020.
Likewise, Jaila Devi BK, 20, of Tribeni Municipality died ten days after her child's birth due to excessive bleeding.Ganga Chadara, 21, of Himali Rural Municipality died just after giving birth to a baby due to excessive bleeding in 2021.In 2022, Nitu Jaisi, 20, of Budiganga Municipality died two months ago for want of treatment.
Similarly, Janaki BK, 26, of Badimalika Municipality died some two weeks ago after she could not give birth to the baby.Of the ten deceased, seven new mothers died in the health facility, one died at home while two died on the way to the health facility.Badimalika Municipality Health Coordinator Tek Bahadur Khadka said ten women died over a period of ten years due to lack of awareness.
"The reason behind the death of new mothers include lack of regular check-up and unwillingness to reach health facilities for delivery," he said.
He further said lack of enough rest and nutritious food, among others, were also the chief reasons behind the untimely death of new mothers.Although the country has operated air rescue programme in the district, the death rate of new mothers is yet to be controlled.
The fertility rate of women is worrisome in Bajura.
The lives of women are put at high risk as they are compelled to work hard even during pregnancy.Moreover, complications arising from giving birth to multiple children, untimely marriage, lack of basic health service, among others, have added to their woes.
The district is mostly inhabited by impoverished people.
The government allocates budget under different titles every year for the district, all in vain.#13;
