Two persons died and seven were injured as over 142,000 people remained affected by the heavy rains and strong winds that slammed across the island since early this week, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said yesterday.The two deaths were reported from Baddegama in Galle as a result of a landslide and from Kalutara caused by a collapsed wall.DMC spokesperson Pradeep Kodippili said nearly 44,500 affected people were evacuated to safe locations.

Most of the affected were from the Southern and Western Provinces.

Additionally, 75 houses sustained heavy damages, while over 3,000 houses were partially damaged.
