Stock market update: Private sector banks pocket gains; IDFC Bank, Axis Bank among top gainers

NEW DELHI: Most private sector banks were trading with gains during morning trade on Thursday. The Nifty Private Bank index was trading 1.23 per cent up at 15,126 around 10:30 am with all components in the green.

Shares of South Indian Bank (up 3.12 per cent) and IDFC Bank (up 3.05 per cent) were the top gainers in the index. Axis Bank (up 2.29 per cent), Federal Bank (up 1.74 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.71 per cent), YES Bank (up 1.14 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.13 per cent) were also witnessing decent traction in their shares. HDFC Bank (up 0.66 per cent), RBL Bank (up 0.53 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (up 0.53 per cent) were trading with mild gains. Equity markets were trading up amid positive global cues. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 84 points at 10,769, while the BSE Sensex was up 292 points at 35,471. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 41 were trading in the green, while 9 were in the red.

Vedanta, Hindalco and Axis Bank were trading as the top gainers in the Nifty index.
