NEW DELHI: Most auto stocks, including Bharat Forge (down 2.26 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (down 2.25 per cent) were incurring losses during afternoon trade on Thursday.
The BSE Auto index was trading 0.80 per cent down at 24,641 around 02:25 pm.
Shares of Cummins India (down 1.88 per cent), Mahindra Mahindra (down 1.85 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (down 1.37 per cent) and Motherson Sumi Systems (down 1.18 per cent) also witnessed significant fall.
Bosch (down 0.97 per cent), Balkrishna Industries (down 0.79 per cent), Eicher Motors (down 0.71 per cent), Exide Industries (down 0.43 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 0.30 per cent), Tata Motors (down 0.24 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki India (down 0.15 per cent) too were in the red.
However, shares of MRF (up 1.69 per cent), Ashok Leyland (up 1.16 per cent) and Apollo Tyres (up 1.08 per cent) were trading with gains.
Equity markets were up on gains in oil gas, bank, financial and FMCG stocks amid firm global cues.
Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 330 points at 36,596, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 90 points at 11,039.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 30 were trading in the green, while 20 were in the red.
In the Sensex index, 18 stocks were advancing, while 13 were declining.
Infosys, Bajaj Auto and Vedanta were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty.
