BIRGUNJ, MARCH 28Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Chairperson Kamal Thapa has clarified that monarchy doesn't figure in his party's agenda."It was a mistake to lobby for monarchy in the past, but let me clarify it here that monarchy is no longer our agenda now; rather, it's establishment of Hindu state, good governance and prosperity that comprise our main agenda," said the RPP-N chief, speaking at a press conference organised by his party in Birgunj, Parsa, today.
Further, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal chair informed that his party was now focused on making a strong presence in national politics after the upcoming elections.Thapa also defended his party's Hindu-state agenda, claiming that the provision of secularism in the constitution was enshrined under pressure from western countries and some political parties.
"In fact, those who blame us for politics of religion haven't understood the meaning of religion," he said.
"We aren't for protecting the Hindu religion only, but for the protection of Sanatan culture by respecting all religions," he clarified. The leader also accused most political parties of accumulating wealth unnaturally overnight in the name of democracy and lamented the increasing foreign intervention in the country.Thapa also noted that the country's relations with its neighbours had suffered due to the ratification of the MCC and accused the government of failing to do the needful to improve relations with those neighbours.
He also pointed out the risk of social and religious harmony in the country being frayed if the present situation persisted longer.Thapa clarified that he had to revive RPP-N after Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden him ignored him and the agenda that the party had earlier embraced under his leadership.A version of this article appears in the print on March 29, 2022, of The Himalayan Times.
