Share market update: Telecom stocks mixed; RCom, Idea up, but Airtel slips

NEW DELHI: Telecom stocks were trading mixed in afternoon trade on Friday. The BSE Telecom index was trading 0.13 per cent up at 1,160 around 02:30 pm, with 10 stocks up and 7 down.

Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 6.16 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 3.83 per cent) and Vindhya Telelinks (up 2.46 per cent) were the top gainers in the telecom index.

GTL (up 2.18 per cent), ITI (up 1.69 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) (up 1.34 per cent), Idea Cellular (up 0.89 per cent) and Sterlite Technologies (up 0.80 per cent) too were trading with gains. However, GTL Infrastructure (down 4.90 per cent), GTPL Hathway (down 1.09 per cent), Tejas Networks (down 0.94 per cent), OnMobile Global (down 0.91 per cent), Tata Communications (down 0.82 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 0.60 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 0.35 per cent) were among the losers in the index.

Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 340 points at 38,003, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 96 points at 11,481. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 37 were trading in the green, while 13 were in the red.

In the Sensex index, 22 stocks were advancing, while 9 were declining. YES Bank, Vedanta and State Bank of India were leading among Sensex scrips.
